Helen is free to get on with her life without worrying about stoma bag disposal because of Aura Flushable.
Freedom to enjoy the good things – Helen’s Story

Helen’s life changed after she required surgery for a colostomy due to Crohn’s disease and other health challenges. Adjusting to life with a colostomy was not without its difficulties, especially the constant worry about managing it while out and about. However, since discovering the Aura Flushable colostomy pouch, Helen has not only overcome those concerns but has also rediscovered her love for travel, enjoying holidays abroad to destinations like Ibiza, Spain, and France.
“It makes your life so much simpler. You can get rid of the actual contents in your toilet without having to take them anywhere else. So you’ve got no problems – and whoosh and away it’s gone!”
Helen first learned about flushable pouches at a CliniMed open day, where she met their inventor. Intrigued by the concept, she decided to give them a try. Although it took a few attempts to get used to them, Helen quickly realized how much simpler and more convenient they made her life. The ability to discreetly flush the contents away, without having to carry used pouches for disposal elsewhere, was a revelation. She appreciates the flexibility the pouches provide, allowing her to choose whether to flush the entire pouch or dispose of the inner bag.
Travelling has been transformative for Helen. She recalls how the worry about managing her colostomy used to dominate her thoughts, but with Aura Flushable, that stress about travel is gone. Whether she’s exploring the British Isles or staying in hotels abroad, she finds the pouches reliable and easy to use. Helen often reassures others who are hesitant about flushable pouches, confidently telling them, “If they can go down my toilet, they’ll go down yours.”
Helen: With a colostomy, you never know when it’s going to go or what’s going to happen. You’ll go out and you… Is it going to be alright? And that worry is constantly in your mind.
Helen: I went to a CliniMed open day and I met the inventor of the flushable pouch. And I thought, “Well, that’s got to be good, so, I’m gonna give that a try.” It takes you a few times to get the hang of it, but once you get the hang of it, it is just so much simpler, and makes your life so much simpler.
Helen: The reason I like the flushables so much is because you can get rid of the actual contents in your toilet, without having to take them anywhere else. And you got the choice, with the flange of either putting it down your, loo or putting it in the bag.
Helen: I met a lady at one of the open days, and she said, “Well, what bags do you use?” And I explained, and she said, “Oh, no, no. They won’t go down the toilet.” I said, “They will. If they can go down my toilet, guaranteed they’ll go down your toilet. So give them a try.”
Helen: I’ve been all over the British Isles, and I’ve been abroad to Ibiza, Spain, France, no problem it just disappears, you flush. Brilliant. Most hotels have got good, really good plumbing. One flush, It’s gone.
Helen: My own philosophy of life is that life’s too short. There’s no rehearsal, you’ve got to make the most of it. And if you have things thrown at you, which believe me, I have had, you’ve just got to get on with your life and try and enjoy it as best you can, and look at all the good things and not look so much on the bad.
Helen: With the flushables, you can carry on your life as you want to with more discreetly and more confidently.
“If you’ve had things thrown at you, and believe me I have had, you’ve just got to get on with your life and enjoy it as best you can and look at all the good things and not look so much on the bad.”
Helen embraces life with a positive philosophy, believing that life is too short not to enjoy it to the fullest. With Aura Flushable, she carries on her adventures with confidence, focusing on the good in life and making the most of every opportunity, no matter the challenges she’s faced.
