Shelley & Nina’s ATHX Journey
This summer, Shelley and Nina, both living with a stoma, are taking on ATHX games. Not to hit a specific target, but to rebuild their confidence and show themselves what they are capable of.
Shelley and Nina are two very different people, but they share something important: both are learning to trust their bodies again after stoma surgery.
For Shelley, exercise had always been part of her life. But after multiple surgeries, confidence didn’t come back overnight. Recovery meant taking things slowly, listening to her body, and rebuilding strength step by step.
Nina’s journey looked different. Once a major fitness enthusiast, illness and surgery left her feeling disconnected from her body and unsure whether she would ever return to a gym. But with the right support, she began to rebuild not just physical strength, but belief in herself.
For Shelley and Nina, Breathing and Movements is where their confidence started.
Through simple, guided breathing techniques and controlled movements, the programme helped them rebuild core strength and feel more supported in how their bodies move. It’s not only helped them during exercise, but has made everyday life feel easier too.
This growing sense of control and confidence has helped Shelley and Nina reconnect with movement and feel ready to take the next step in their journey as they prepare for the ATHX Games challenge.
Watch this video where Shelley & Nina talk about their Breathing and Movements journey.
Breathing and Movements is a structured programme designed to help people living with a stoma move with confidence after surgery.
The programme is broken down into simple, easy-to-follow phases that:
Promote safe activity
Reduce the risk of a parastomal hernia developing
Allow you to move safely, at your own pace
Use guided breathing techniques and controlled movements
As they train, Shelley and Nina choose products they trust to feel comfortable and secure, giving them the confidence to move without having to think about their stoma bag.
The Aura Plus range is designed to support confidence and peace of mind during everyday life and activity.
“Aura Plus helps me feel confident because I don’t even have to think about having it on. I just have my pouch on, I go for a run, I go and exercise, and it never crosses my mind that it’s going to fail me.” Shelley
“Aura Plus helps me feel confident because whilst I’m training, I can’t actually feel the stoma bag. It feels very natural and feels very secure.” Nina
Choose from black or sand, in mini, midi, or maxi sizes, with options for flat or soft convex in range of plateau sizes!

Not everyone wants to take on an event like ATHX Games. For one person, confidence might be returning to the gym. For others, it might mean walking further, lifting shopping comfortably, or simply trusting their body again.
Shelley and Nina’s story is just one example of what’s possible with the right support.
As Shelley says: “Listen to your body, listen to the support from your Stoma Care Nurses, and just give things a go. You’d be surprised how much you can do.”
