Closed stoma bags are usually worn by those with a colostomy. The stool is generally well formed and the bag will be changed once or twice a day depending on how often waste is produced.
Drainable Stoma bags are worn by those with a more fluid output, generally of a porridge-like consistency, i.e. ileostomates and some colostomates (in the latter case, those who have had surgery carried out higher up the large bowel).
Urostomy bags are worn by those who have a urostomy and fluid output will be emptied several times per day. At night most urostomates connect the urostomy bag to a night drainage bag.
