CliniMed and SecuriCare attended ASCNUK26 in Birmingham with over 500 attendees, celebrating real stories and real confidence.
This week, CliniMed and SecuriCare proudly attended this year’s Association of Stoma Care Nurses UK Conference (ASCNUK26) in Birmingham. It was three days with over 500 attendees taking part in educational sessions, presentations, and networking.
This year, we wanted our stand to show that living with a stoma should never hold you back.
Shelley and Nina, both SecuriCare home delivery users and Aura Plus stoma bag wearers, were at the heart of our stand. After recently competing in the ATHX Games, a 2.5-hour fitness challenge, they showcased the resilience, confidence and determination that inspired us all.
Both Shelley and Nina used our Breathing and Movements programme to be able to trust their bodies again and do high-intensity exercise.
Following the success of Shelley and Nina’s ATHX journey, we wanted to highlight the importance of the Breathing and Movements programme.
Our SecuriCare nursing team – Caroline Rudoni, Stephanie Loader, and Sarah Brown took us through the programme. It was great to see Shelley demonstrate the movements and take part in a Q&A about her Breathing and Movements journey.
The programme links to the EXPASS guidelines, presented at last year’s event, emphasising the importance core rehabilitation and breathing management. A key takeaway from this symposium was about how simple it is to implement Breathing and Movements in patient visits, and that those few minutes of learning the programme can have a significant impact on helping to reduce the risk of developing a parastomal hernia.
A huge thank you to all those involved in this symposium, with double the number of attendees we expected, it sure was a success!
You Can’t Eat That!

Anna’s survey of 92 stoma patients found significant gaps in dietary support, with only 65% receiving advice before or shortly after surgery and just 52% being given updated guidance.
The findings highlight a clear need for up-to-date nutritional information to help people manage their stoma with confidence and avoid unnecessary dietary restrictions.
Exercise and the Prevention of Parastomal Hernias
Presentation by Stephanie Loader, SecuriCare Clinical Lead Nurse
Steph presented her research from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital demonstrating the positive impact of the Breathing and Movements programme on post-operative recovery. Of the 51 patients surveyed, most found the programme easy to follow and completed it in less than 10 minutes a day, while a significant majority reported no bulge following surgery. These promising results reinforce the value of the programme and provide a strong foundation for further research.
Meriam Agbor, SecuriCare Stoma Care Nurse, presented an engaging poster that maps the patient journey using a traffic light system, helping people with a new stoma build the confidence needed to manage their care independently.
Through four stages, from Uncertain and Learning to Confident and Independent, patients are guided through pouch changes, stoma care skills, and discharge preparation, empowering them to take control of their care with confidence.
A huge congratulations to Stephanie Loader who came runner up in the Best Oral Presentation at ASCN 2026 and to Kevin Hayles on winning the Stoma Care Nurse Of The Year award!
