Frequently asked questions
You can bathe, shower, and swim while wearing Aura Plus. The pouch material is water-repellent and the system is waterproof. If using a pouch with a filter, use a filter cover – the protective sticker provided in the box.
Aura Plus is suitable for sensitive skin. The hydrocolloid is made from all natural ingredients and is infused with Manuka honey that has received dermatological accreditation from the Skin Health Alliance.
Aura Plus is available in mini, midi, or maxi sizes. Which size you choose depends on your circumstances and preferences, for example the volume of your stoma output, your preferences for discretion, the activities you do, or your access to facilities and bathrooms.
How often you change your stoma bag depends on the type of stoma you have and the volume of your stoma output. Closed stoma bags are typically changed between 1–3 times a day whereas drainable and urostomy pouches can be emptied and are typically changed every 1–2 days. Pouches should be changed or emptied when they are about a third to half full.
Aura Plus bags have a cut-to-fit flange which needs to be cut to the exact size and shape of your stoma. You can cut the pouch yourself using pouch cutting scissors or you can use a professional pouch cutting service offered by your home delivery service. Place the used stoma bag and any used wipes in a disposal bag which is sealed and thrown in your normal waste. For drainable and urostomy pouches, the contents should be emptied in the toilet before removal and disposal.
For closed pouches, the used bag can be placed straight into the disposal bag. Some people prefer to cut open the bag and empty the contents, but this is not necessary. This guide to changing a stoma bag provides more information about changing a bag and disposing of used bags and appliances.
Aura Plus is suitable for people with a parastomal hernia. The flange adapts and shapes around the contours of the body and can fit around a parastomal hernia.
