Men also have a pelvic floor and doing pelvic floor exercises on a regular basis can help support certain bodily functions such as urination and bowel movements.
This Men’s health guide has been created by Gerard Greene, a Physiotherapist, who has practices in Birmingham and London. Gerard specialises in men's pelvic health, with a particular focus on prostate surgery. He is also well respected for the training courses he delivers to other physios both in the UK and Internationally.
The aim of the guide is to provide an introduction to the male pelvic floor, highlighting its importance, key functions and an explanation of how the pelvic floor muscles work. The guide then walks you through some easy to follow pelvic floor exercises, starting with basic beginners exercises and progressing to different positions and levels of resistance as you become more comfortable with the exercises.
Follow the exercises at your own pace either using the eBook or watching the short video clips that accompany each exercise.
*Prior to commencing any pelvic floor exercises, please note; they should be comfortable to do and should not be painful. It's important that you don't overdo the exercises, as this can make symptoms worse or create new problems. Carry out the exercises gently, starting small and working up to the repetitions if you're finding it difficult.
