This course gives an introductory understanding of using a urinary sheath to help manage incontinence for male patients. This course will give healthcare professionals the knowledge and understanding to tailor solutions to meet their patient’s continence needs, whilst improving patient outcomes and confidence.

This course is suitable for healthcare professionals who support patients with their continence needs, whether in hospital, community or a care home setting.
What can I expect from the course?
The course is split into 4 modules that you can work through at your own pace.
- The introduction and objective module covers topics such as an understanding of the different types of incontinence. It explaining basic bladder function and factors that should be considered for urinary sheath selection.
- In the patient assessment and choice module, we look at the process that should be followed so that patients can make informed choices alongside their healthcare provider.
- In the next module we look more in-depth at the urinary sheath including the key steps to ensure a proper fit and comfortable experience. Our community nurse specialist, Anna Mosely walks us through a demonstration, including fitting, connecting the drainage system, and correct securement techniques.
- In the final module we cover skincare and why this is important for good urinary sheath management. We also consider good skin care practices and products that can help maintain the skin health around the sheath.
