MelMax^® is a revolutionary wound dressing designed to help clean and heal contaminated and infected wounds. It's a sterile wound dressing with a dual action. Its ionogen formulation facilitates wound closure whilst the phenolic rich buckwheat honey works to resolve infections and colonisation.

MelMax tackles the 3 major wound healing obstacles

1. Critical contamination or infection

Infections and critical contamination are often resistant to antimicrobials like silver, iodine and sulphonamides. The buckwheat honey in MelMax is particularly rich in phenols, which help prevent infection. Buckwheat honey also has a low pH and low moisture content, which are also important in clearing contaminated and infected wounds.

2. Overproduction of reactive oxygen

The immune cells that combat wound bacteria can cause overproduction of superoxide, a reactive form of oxygen that hinders healing. The high levels of phenols in buckwheat honey give it superior anti-oxidant activity compared to other types of honey. This helps reduce levels of reactive oxygen in the wound, to aid healing.

3. Unbalanced production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)

These enzymes play an important role in tissue regeneration. Without proper regulation, a wound will not heal.

MelMax's ionogen formulation, a unique blend of trace elements (metal ions) normally found in wound exudates and serum, helps regulate MMP production in the wound bed to enable wound healing.
